7:00am - 2:30pm
Ages: 11-17
Fee: $89

This camp has been converted to an online format due to COVID-19. All students and instructors will participate remotely. The Hoover Dam. The Eiffel Tower. The Golden Gate Bridge. These are just a few of the well-known landmarks that should make you think of civil engineering. Civil engineers design, build, and maintain critical infrastructure for our modern society – roads and bridges, drinking water and energy systems, airports, and the infrastructure for a cleaner environment, to name just a few. Think of a civil engineer when you: turn on your water to take a shower or drink clean water, turn on your lights when it gets dark at night, ride to the store on roads and bridges through synchronized traffic lights, fly on an airplane or ride on a train, toss paper into the recycling bin. Civil engineering offers a wide variety of specialty areas and uses a diverse array of high-tech and low-tech tools. In this remotely delivered class, you will have the opportunity to explore some of these specialties and conduct some home-safe, hands-on, fun demonstrations to learn about this unique field. Prior to the class, arrangements will be made for students to obtains kits of materials to be used during the class.
